Your Eurovision Song Contest Cape Town & Durban 2024·1


Your Eurovision Song Contest 2024.1 is set to be the 9th edition of the rebooted Your Eurovision Song Contest and the 23rd edition overall, which is set to be held in South Africa, following the cancellation of the 2023 contest. This marks the second time the contest will take place in Africa. Organized by the Your Eurovision Broadcasting Union (YEBU) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the contest consisted of two semi-finals, which were held on  August 16 & 17 2024 and a Grand Final, which was held on August 31 2024.

Bidding phase

Host broadcaster SABC launched the bidding process on 3 May 2024. They stated that "any potential candidates must meet a set of minimum standards that demonstrate they have the capacity, capability, and experience to host an event of this scale and complexity."

 

Phase 1  |  Bid Presentation

During the first stage of the bidding process, a total of 11 bids were received from 8 South African provinces across 9 cities, with the province of Northern Cape | NC having no suitable venues for the contest.

 

Phase 2  |  Public Vote

After a public vote, four cities were shortlisted by the organizers to develop their bids further. The shortlisted cities were Cape Town, Durban. Pretoria and Johannesburg.

 

Phase 3  |  Final Decision

Ultimately, a joint bid by Cape Town & Durban won the hosting rights.
